Vicor Adds New 24V Input Series For Families Of DC-DC Converters

March 18, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

The Brick Business Unit of Vicor Corp. announced the addition of a new 24V input series for both the VI-J00 and VI-200 families of dc-dc converters. With a wide input range of 10 to 36V, the modules are targeted for applications operating from 12 or 24V inputs, which are typical for battery systems in vehicles. The low-noise ZCS topology is said to greatly reduce the design effort and filtering costs required for power converters to meet agency-conducted emissions requirements.

The new 24Vdc VI-200 series models offer 16 different output voltages ranging from 3.3 to 48V with a maximum power of 75W, and four different environmental grades. Packaging options include a flangeless model (SlimMod), a flangeless model with an integral heat sink (FinMod), and a chassis mount housing with screw/lug wiring interface (BusMod). The modules, which are optionally available in RoHS compliant models, are a compact 4.6 x 2.2 x 0.5" (117 x 56 x 12,7mm) in size.

The new 24Vdc VI-J00 series models offer 16 different output voltages ranging from 3.3 to 48V with a maximum power of 50W, and four different environmental grades. Packaging options include a flangeless model (SlimMod), a flangeless model with an integral heat sink (FinMod), and a chassis mount housing with screw/lug wiring interface (BusMod). The modules, which are optionally available in RoHS compliant models, are a compact 2.28 x 2.4 x 0.5" (57,9 x 61,0 x 12,7mm) in size.

"This new 10-36Vdc input range facilitates the power design for many vehicle and man portable applications requiring either 12 V or 24 V operation," said Joe Sullivan, Product Marketing Manager.

Pricing for the 24Vdc input VI-J00 or VI-200 models ranges from as low as $89 USD (5V, 50W, E Grade) in 100-piece quantities. Lead times can be as short as three weeks for prototype quantities.
