V-Infinity Intros VPOLXXX-12W Series POL DC Converters

July 10, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

V-Infinity LLC (Beaverton, OR) introduced its new VPOLXXX-12W Series of industry-standard, point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters, which offer an input range of 6.0 Vdc to 14.0 Vdc that makes them suitable for boards that utilize a loosely regulated intermediate voltage distribution bus fed by an intermediate bus converter, or a 12 V ac-dc power supply. The VPOLXXX-12W Series is available in 10 A, 16 A, and 20 A versions, with an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C.

Intended for a range of distributed power architecture applications, including mobile communications and computing, the converters offer efficiencies as high as 94%. The low-profile SIP and SMT units measure 22.9 mm x 13.76 mm x 5.6 mm in the 10 A SIP models, and 20.3 mm x 11.43 mm x 6.1 mm in the 10 A SMT version. The VPOLXXX-12W delivers output voltages ranging from 0.75 V to 5.0 V, which is trimmable via an external resistor. Features include remote on/off, output-voltage sequencing, continuous short-circuit protection, output over-current protection, and over-temperature protection. All VPOLXXX-12W units are UL certified.

The new VPOLXXX-12W Series of POL converters are priced at $10.50 per unit. Availability is from five to seven weeks (production).
