UNIPOWER Presents PCP/TPCP Front Ends

June 24, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

UNIPOWER Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) presented its new PCP/TPCP front ends, which are designed to drive power buses for distributed power systems. Three different models produce 48Vdc at 25A (1,200W), 24Vdc at 41.7A (1,000W), and 12Vdc at 66.7A (800W). The units come in an ultra-compact case only 1.6in x 5in x 10in, resulting in up to 15W/in³ power density. The devices are available in either hot-swap or chassis-mount versions and have self-cooling fans and a single, pluggable connector. The PCP/TPCP Series is a member of UNIPOWER’s PowerCassette® family of switching power supplies.

The front ends operate from 85Vac to 264Vac universal inputs and feature power-factor correction with a Class B input EMI filter. Other features include a 5Vdc, 250mA auxiliary output; integral LED status indicators; active current sharing; an output ORing diode; and no minimum load requirement. Control and monitoring features include enable/inhibit inputs, ac power-fail, dc power-good, over-temperature logic outputs, and a current monitor output. An optional I²C output is available for monitoring operating functions in serial data format. Standard protection features include overload, over-voltage and over-temperature protection.

Also available with this series are two- and three-unit racks which can produce up to 3,600W non-redundant, or up to 2,400W N+1 redundant. For ease of testing and evaluation, a mating interface board is available for easy connection to all inputs and outputs. Delivery is stock to six weeks and pricing is as low as $479 in OEM quantities.
