Unipower Launches the Front-Ends Magellan Series

April 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) introduced the Magellan (RMX) Series of front-ends. Supplying 25A at 48Vdc, or 1,200W, the Magellan Series is designed to drive distributed power loads. The supply stands 1U high and is field-replaceable from the front, without the need for disconnecting from system wiring. The output voltage can be adjusted over a 44V to 58V range by means of a front-panel potentiometer or a remote analog control voltage. The system mounts in a standard 19" rack.

Power density in the Magellan Series is 3.3W per cubic inch; efficiency is 86 percent. The unit has an ac input voltage range of 85V to 265V with input power factor correction to 0.99, giving less than five percent total input current harmonic distortion. Total regulation, line and load, is 1.0 percent. The input has a Class B EMI filter. These front-ends are designed for use in a variety of distributed power systems, especially where rack space is at a premium.

Important features of the Magellan Series include green LED indicators for ac and dc power-good, over-voltage protection on outputs, over-temperature protection, remote sensing, single-wire active load-sharing capability with another RMX unit, and current-limiting overload and short-circuit protection.

Magellan Series front-ends are priced starting at $965 each for the power module and the mating rack. Additional spare front-end modules can be supplied separately from the racks. Delivery is stock to six weeks.
