Unipower Intros MicroMod MKT Series

August 29, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) introduced its new MicroMod MKT Series of triple-output dc/dc converters. Offering power levels from 32W to 80W, the converters are Unipower's second series to be introduced following its acquisition of Power Micro Corp. in April 1999. The MicroMod MKT Series features power densities up to 22W per cubic inch in a standard half-size case of 2.4" x 2.5" x 0.6". Switching frequency is a constant 450kHz. Other features include independent, floating auxiliary outputs, five-sided metal shielding and operation down to -40 degrees C. There are 24 standard models in the MKT Series, with main output voltages of 2.5, 3.3 or 5Vdc at 4, 6 or 10A available, depending on input voltage. The output power level is a function of both the rated input and output voltage levels, with higher power available at higher input and output voltages. Independent auxiliary outputs are 5, 12 and 15Vdc at 1.1A each. Available input voltage ranges are 9-18, 20-30 or 36-72Vdc. Each output features independent regulation. The main output has remote sensing and is externally adjustable by +/-10 percent. Protective features include output current limiting and unlimited duration short-circuit protection with automatic recovery. The main output offers overvoltage protection with automatic recovery. All units incorporate overtemperature protection. The MKT Series converters are priced as low as $89 each in OEM quantities.
