Tyco Electronics Unveils FHW500R DC/DC Converter
Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced the FHW500R, an ultra-high-efficiency, 500W, dc/dc converter for use in powering wireless base stations and other high-current 24Vdc to 28Vdc applications.
The FHW500R operates over an input-voltage range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V nominal) to deliver a single output of 24Vdc to 28Vdc in an industry-standard full-brick package. Advanced synchronous-rectification technology enables the FHW500R to achieve efficiency levels of up to 91 percent at 28V, 18A full load. A parallel pin feature enables multiple FHW500R converters to be used in parallel to achieve even higher current levels, further enhancing flexibility. The FHW500R is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +100 degrees C. A metal board construction allows cold-wall assembly and the possible addition of heatsinks, ensuring high performance over the extended temperature ranges typically seen in wireless base stations.
The FHW500R provides an estimated one million hours MTBF and incorporates a number of protection features offering protection against high-current, voltage or temperature levels. Stability and system reliability are further enhanced by filtering, to handle output noise and ripple, and monotonic start-up, even into pre-biased loads. The module is
designed to meet requirements for basic insulation.
The FHW500R is priced at $173.35 in 10,000-unit quantities. Samples are available now.
