Tyco Electronics Unveils FHW500B DC/DC Converter
Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced its new FHW500B dc/dc converter, which offers wireless, optical and enterprise networking OEMs a high-efficiency, high-current 12Vdc power output in an industry-standard full-brick package. The FHW500B is designed for 12Vdc intermediate bus architecture applications, enabling OEMs to use down-stream, non-isolated, dc-dc converters to generate additional logic voltages. In addition, the FHW500B can be used to power multiple fans, supporting redundancy for increased fault protection.
The FHW500B is capable of operating over an input-voltage range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V), and provides a tightly regulated single 12Vdc output with an output current ranging up to 42A/500W. Ultra-high efficiency of 90 percent at full load is achieved due to synchronous rectification technology and packaging techniques.
The FHW500B is built around a metal base-plate construction, allowing heatsinks to be added, and ensuring high performance is maintained in temperatures ranging from -40 to +100 degrees C. An enclosed design further enhances reliability, while retaining an industry-standard full-brick size of 4.6in x 2.4in x 0.5in (116.8mm x 61.0mm x 12.7mm).
The FHW500B includes a number of protection features such as input and output over-voltage protection, input under-voltage protection, thermal protection, and output over-current protection, as well as remote on/off and basic insulation.
The FHW500B Series module is priced at $222 in 1,000-unit quantities, and samples are available now.
