Tyco Electronics Debuts Austin Lynx DC/DC Converters

April 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced its new Austin Lynx family of single-output, 10A, non-isolated, dc/dc converters to power the latest low-voltage components while minimizing board space. The converters are suitable for workstations, servers, PCs, telecommunications and data communications applications.

The Austin Lynx converters feature open-frame construction, output-current protection, over-temperature protection, efficiency levels of up to 94 percent, an estimated MTBF of two million hours, operating temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 degrees C, an intermediate bus voltage of between 3Vdc to 5.5Vdc, and a regulated single output ranging from 3.3Vdc to 0.9Vdc.

The Austin Lynx modules are available in both single-inline packages (SIP) and surface-mount (SMT) packages, all capable of 10A output. The Austin Lynx SIP is designed for through-hole, vertically oriented connections, while the SMT model is designed for automated surface-mount assembly techniques. The Austin Lynx SIP measures 50.8mm x 12.7mm x 8.4mm (2in x 0.5in x 0.33in), while the Austin Lynx SMT is 33.0mm x 13.5mm x 7.4mm (1.3in x 0.53in x 0.29in).

The Austin Lynx SIP and SMT modules are priced at $13.75 in 1,000-unit quantities. Samples are available now.
