Tyco Announces Addition To CROWN CLIP Interconnect Series For Low Insertion/Extraction Demands

December 04, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics introduced an addition to the CROWN CLIP interconnect series with the release of its new 150A CROWN CLIP JUNIOR connector. This connector mates directly to a power bus bar, providing a what is described as a space efficient interconnection in solder or screw mount configurations suitable for telecom power supply and power distribution applications. It is said to satisfy the demand for low insertion/extraction forces and, with its hot-plug capability, is well suited for reliable high power connections.

The CROWN CLIP JUNIOR connector mates with a 3.0mm thick plated bus bar, providing a separable interface that eases assembly, inspection and troubleshooting. The right angle connector can be soldered directly to a PCB or screwed to a bus bar for a 150A current rating at less than 30°C temperature rise.

Utilizing the CROWN BAND contact design, the selectively plated, high conductivity copper contacts offer low resistance and low milli-volt drop, reducing temperature rise for efficient power distribution. In blindmate applications this connector can handle adverse tolerances through its anti-stress feature, thus allowing reliable mating – even to misaligned bus bars.

This new connector is designed for use in core network energy systems, cellular base stations, PSU power distribution, servers, storage and network routers and industrial applications.
