TI Introduces 52V Boost Controller For Industrial & Battery-Powered Systems

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) introduced a 4.5 to 52V wide-input voltage boost controller, intended for industrial and battery-powered applications where the output is a regulated current instead of a regulated voltage. In addition, TI launched two integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulators with internal protection circuits that simplify power design for industrial systems.

TI’s new TPS40210 non-synchronous dc-dc controller with current mode control supports design configurations that require a grounded source N-channel FET, including boost, flyback and SEPIC topologies. The integrated device provides programmable soft start and several over-current protection features, including a current feedback threshold mechanism in the control loop.

TI also introduced the TPS7A4501 and TL1963A LDOs that support input voltages up to 20V and generate up to 1.5A output current with very low output noise. The LDOs are aimed at applications where low-voltage operation and good transient response are important, such as low-voltage logic and RF power supply applications.

The TPS7A4501 LDO is capable of dropout voltage down to 300mV, and provides low noise (35µVrms at 10Hz to 100kHz) and an operating quiescent current at 1mA. The TPS7A4501 has an adjustable input voltage of 1.21 to 20V. The TL1963A is similar to the TPS7A4501, but provide a low dropout voltage of 340mV with a 1.5A output current.

The TPS40210 is offered in a 10-pin MSOP PowerPAD™ and a 10-pin SON package, and suggested resale price is $1.10 in 1,000-piece quantities. A TPS40210EVM design evaluation module can be ordered for $49.
