TI Announces TPS6205x DC/DC Converter Family
Texas Instruments Inc. (TI, Dallas, TX) introduced its new TPS6205x family of low-power, step-down, dc/dc converters, which are suitable for portable battery-powered devices such as personal digital assistants, smart phones and other Bluetooth-enabled equipment.
Designed to provide up to 95 percent power conversion efficiency, the synchronous converters offer a wide input-voltage range from 2.7V to 10V, output current of up to 800mA, and a low 12µA of quiescent current for longer standby time for electronic devices that use one-cell to two-cell lithium-ion or two-cell to six-cell nickel-metal hydride, nickel cadmium or alkaline batteries.
The TPS6205x family with integrated field effect transistors, allows reduction of both board space and system cost. The converters can also generate output voltages ranging from 0.7V to 6V. The TPS6205x converters operate at 850kHz and can be synchronized to external clock frequencies from 600kHz to 1.2MHz. In shutdown mode, the current consumption is reduced to less than 2µA.
The TPS6205x devices are available now in volume. The devices come in a 10-pin, micro-small outline package. Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1,000 is $1.74. Evaluation modules of the TPS6205x are scheduled to be available in first quarter of 2003.
