the Excalibur series of 5W to 100W dc/dc
Power Trends Inc. (Warrenville, IL) has recently unveiled the Excalibur series, its new line of 5W to 100W isolated and non-isolated dc/dc converters. Power Trends claims the Excalibur series to be the first dc/dc converters to feature open frame housings with the ability to mount the converter either vertically or horizontally. Products in the Excalibur series also feature synchronous rectification for high efficiency and digitally programmable output voltages as low as 1.3V. The first two products to be released in the Excalibur series are the PT6700 series, a 13A output non-isolated converter, and the PT4480 series, a 48V input 100W output isolated converter. Power Trends claims that when using synchronous rectification, the PT6700 provides greater than 90 percent conversion efficiency. With input voltages of 3.3V, 5V or 12V, it has the following features: standby function, differential remote sense, short circuit protection, over-voltage drive for an external crowbar and a power good signal. The PT6700 is available with either a fixed or digital 5-bit programmable output voltage (1.3V to 3.5V) and is packaged in a 23-pin SIP package (1 x 2.6 x .0.5). The PT4480 has full telecom input voltage range (36V to 75V), environmental performance and features, and is available in a surface mount package. Power Trends claims that when using synchronous rectification, the PT4480 provides 88 percent conversion efficiency. The PT4480 offers the following features: digital 5-bit programmable output voltages from 1.3V to 3.5V, remote on/off, differential remote sense, over-current, over-temperature, over-voltage protection, ambient operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C, 1500Vdc isolation, and standard differential mode input filter. The PT4480 is packaged in an open-frame 26-pin package (1.5 x 3.6 0.5). The PT4480 series also offers two paralleling techniques. ThePT4481 can be used with other PT4481s in an N+1 configuration for applications requiring redundancy. For applications only requiring additional power, the PT4482 can be used with the lower cost PT4489 30A current booster. In OEM quantities of 1,000, pricing for the PT6700 series is $19.50 and $89 for the PT4480 series. Samples are currently available.
