TelCom Semiconductor Introduces the TC33166 and TC33167 Power Switching Regulators

July 02, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

TelCom Semiconductor Inc. (Mountain View, CA) has added two high-performance power-switching regulators to its power management family of products, the TC33166 and the TC33167. These products are designed to offer a flexible architecture with the ability to be configured as a buck, boost or voltage-inverting regulator while using a minimum number of external components.

The TC33166 and TC33167 feature a high-output current capability, of 3.0A and 5.0A respectively, while operating from 7.5V to 40V, and a low-power standby current of 36uA. In addition, they can be used in a variety of applications, from industrial controllers and cellular base stations to network boxes.

The TC33166 and TC33167 consist of an internal temperature compensated reference, a fixed frequency oscillator with on-chip timing components, a latching pulse width modulator for single-pulse metering, a high-gain error amplifier and a high-current output switch. The output switching current for the TC33166 is in excess of 3.0A, and over 5.0A for the TC33167.

"The TC33166 and TC33167 offer both high performance and flexibility, making them suitable for use in most switching regulator and power-control applications," said Don Ashley, manager of Advanced Products Marketing at TelCom Semiconductor.

The TC33166 and TC33167 are available in a five-pin TO-220 and five-pin DDPAK. Pricing for the TC33166 and the TC33167 in 1,000-piece quantities starts at $2.41 and $3.02 respectively.
