TDK Semiconductor Intros 73S8024RN IC

October 26, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

TDK Semiconductor Corp. (Irvine, CA), a leader in mixed-signal communication semiconductors, announced its new 73S8024RN single smart card interface integrated circuit (IC), which is fully approved by NDS and suitable for applications requiring compliance with the ISO-7816-3 and EMV4.1 standards.

The 73S8024RN is fully approved by NDS for use with NDS' VideoGuard® Conditional Access solution in set-top boxes, digital televisions and personal video recorders. The TDK 73S8024RN can be used in conjunction with any host microcontroller and it utilizes TDK's low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator. TDK's LDO-based chips exhibit improved noise performance relative to typical step-up converter-based ICs, while making standards compliance easier. The LDO architecture allows the IC to provide the card with up to 90 mA minimum.

The TDK 73S8024RN is available off-the-shelf in SO28 and QFN32 packages. Pricing starts at $1.17 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Demo boards and application notes for NDS and EMV implementations are available.
