New Products Sep 04, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

TDK Corp. (Japan) introduced its RLF5018 power inductor, which measures 5.6mm x 5.2mm with a profile ranging between 1.8mm to 2.05mm, making the device suitable for use in power circuits of mobile phones, HDDs, digital still and video cameras, PDAs, and MP3 players. The company claims that the device has a dc resistance half the value of competing products and a rated current that is 220 percent more than similar devices.

Other features include an effective magnetic shield structure that allows designers to mount the device anywhere on the PCB. Inductance ranges from 1.5µH to 33µH with a dc resistance between 20 milliohms to 210 milliohms, and a rated current from 0.51A to 2.4A.
