TDK Launches Low Profile Multilayer Power Inductor

November 27, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

TDK Corp. announced the availability of the company's first multilayer power inductors for high switching frequencies. The MLP2520, MLP3225 and MLP3216 feature efficient dc-ac resistance, which is intended to result in improved efficiency and stand-by time, both of which are paramount for battery driven devices. Due to their multilayer design, the inductors have a low profile of approximately 1mm, making them well-suited for handheld applications.

TDK has designed these products for use as dc-dc converters in small devices. The design of the devices make them well-suited for small devices such as mobile phones, PDA's, and portable MP3 players. Furthermore, the ferrite materials used to construct these power inductors are custom-made for this product type. The inductors also have strong mounting strength due to SMD chip making, and are RoHS complaint and completely lead-free.

The MLP3225, MLP3216, and MLP2520 are available in 3 standard heights, with case sizes of 3.2 x 2.5mm, 3.2 x 1.6mm, and 2.5 x 2.0mm respectively. The MLP2520 has a height of 1mm and resistance of 0.06 – 0.11Ω, and Idc of 1100 – 1500mA. The MLP3216 has a height of 0.8mm and resistance of 0.12 – 0.13Ω, and Idc of 1000mA. The MLP3225 has a height of 1 – 1.4mm and resistance of 0.13 – 0.16Ω, and Idc of 900 – 1100mA.
