SynQor Expands Its Family of DC/DC Converters

August 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

SynQor Inc. (Hudson, MA) has expanded its performance-leading family of dc/dc converters to cover 24V input applications. The new quarter-brick-sized converters provide high efficiency, high current output and low-heat dissipation, which allows for operation without a baseplate or heatsink.

The 24Vin quarter-brick converters support a 2:1 input-voltage range from 18V to 36V, with nine models from 1.5Vout to 15Vout. The new high-efficiency units can deliver up to 25A of output current or 100W of power without the need for a heatsink. Modules use synchronous rectification and a patented topology to achieve full-load efficiencies up to 87 percent for a 3.3Vout unit. The converter features an industry-standard footprint of 1.45" x 2.3", while remaining low in profile and weight (0.4, 1.2oz).

Advanced control and protection features include on/off control, remote sense, voltage trim, short circuit, output over-voltage and thermal shutdown. These features allow advanced functionality, while standard safety certifications allow easy integration into the end-user's product. Additionally, the single PCB construction with no baseplate provides increased reliability.

SynQor's line of PowerQor converters is available in a variety of performance grades. The Tera grade provides maximum power, output current and efficiency, while the Giga, Mega and Kilo grades are fine-tuned for successively lower performance requirements.

The new 24Vin quarter-brick converters are part of the Giga performance grade series. The PowerQor 24Vin Series of quarter-brick converters will begin shipping this month and are available from SynQor and through their network of distributors. These modules are priced at $94.50 in quantities of 1,000.
