Surface Mount Header Assemblies Raise Reliability Standards for Off-the-Shelf Connectors

February 14, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Synergetix, ® a developer of custom interconnect solutions, has introduced the company's first off-the-shelf-solution, the Synergetix Surface Mount Header Assembly.

These proprietary designs developed by Synergetix engineers use the spring probe technology of sister company IDI, a leader in spring contact probe innovation.

Before Synergetix introduced this solution, product designers were faced with few options, including straight-pin headers and turned-pin headers, company officials said. The spring probes used in these Synergetix assemblies provide significantly more contact resiliency for higher cycle life than these conventional technologies, officials said. Another advantage is that they can be easily mounted in high-density applications.

The assemblies are used in applications where connection is vital, such as battery contacts for medical and safety devices and connectors for portable emergency communications and military devices.

Synergetix Surface Mount Header Assemblies are available in six contacts per header and can be purchased in multiples of one to six. Other benefits include:

— Patented Eccentric drill technology allowing the use a much smaller probe with higher reliability and performance.

— Three different contact lengths: 3, 6, and 9mm at full travel

— Stackable to form 2 x 6 or 1 x 12 arrays

— Current rating of 12 amps

Synergetix, established in 1994, designs and manufactures custom interconnects including high-performance test sockets for the semiconductor industry and product connectors for the medical, military, aerospace and telecommunications industries.
