November 26, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

STMicroelectronics Inc. (Geneva, Switzerland) announced an extension to its ST7 family of eight-bit micros with the launch of the ST72324 general-purpose microcontroller, which is aimed at the appliance, industrial and automotive markets. The new devices are available in 32-, 44-, 64- and 80-pin TQFP packages as well as SDIP32 and SDIP42.

The new series features a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter and fully embedded secured reset circuitry with a user-configurable, low-voltage detector. Additional advantages include a range of pin-to-pin compatible devices from 8Kb to 60Kb of ROM or Flash program memory, with standard serial interfaces such as SCI (UART), I2C and SPI, as well as 16-bit timers with pulse-width modulation capabilities.

Now available in volume, the first members of the series are designated as ST72324Jx and ST72324Kx and offer up to 32Kb of Flash program memory and are available in TQFP32 (7mm x 7mm) and TQFP44 (10mm x 10mm) packages. Pricing in quantities of 10,000 starts at $1.95 for an 8Kb configuration in a TQFP32 package.
