Stackpole’s WWF Series Offers Outstanding Surge Handling and Failsafe Operation

New Products Jan 26, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

The WWF Series from Stackpole is designed to withstand thousands of surges at 6KV without failing, but will fuse without fire, explosion, or fragmentation under continuous 240Vac overload. The combination of these two opposing requirements poses a difficult challenge for wirewound resistors. Stackpole’s fusing technology combines reliable welded resistance elements for robust surge handling with proprietary materials and processing to fuse quickly and safely under continuous overload. In addition, the WWF Series is conformally coated which lowers costs compared to molded failsafe solutions.

The surge withstanding WWF Series is well suited for applications such as utility metering, appliances such as washers and dryers, refrigerators, and freezers, and a wide variety of other motor and power control applications.

The WWF Series is a special version of the WW Series designed for both high surge handling and failsafe operation. Due to the wide variety of design requirements for these applications, the WWF Series is typically built to the customer specification. Pricing varies with size, tolerance, and specific customer requirements and pricing ranges from around $0.17 each to $1.25 each in minimum quantities.
