Stackpole Announces New Non-Shielded Power Inductor Offering

January 03, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has introduced an expansion of its non-shielded power inductor product line. The new MPE and MPI Series of power inductors provide solutions for the engineer with design limitations on height, footprint, and performance. Stackpole's new products are intended to provide greater versatility by delivering excellent electrical performance in a variety of package sizes and configurations.

"Stackpole has always provided inductors with excellent electrical parameters," stated Kory Schroeder, Product Engineering Manager at Stackpole. "With the addition of the MPE and MPI Series, engineers can now expect that great performance in low-profile packages."

The first new series, the MPE Series, is designed with a very low profile of only 1.2mm, yet is still capable of handling large currents. The MPE Series is available in values from 1 to 68µH, and its high-density design allows it to handle currents up to 1.4A. The low profile makes it well-suited for handheld electronics applications such as PDAs, camcorders, digital cameras, as well as the stringent requirements for LCD televisions. The MPE series is available on tape and reel with typical pricing around $0.27 each. Lead times are eight to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.

The MPI Series is also low-profile and is available in three heights from 1.0m to 2.0mm. The MPI Series has a rugged enclosure making it suitable for environments up to 105ºC, well above the capabilities of standard power inductors. This enclosure provides a pick-and-place surface for automated mounting. It is available in values from 1 to 1000µH, and is rated for current up to 2.5A. The low profile makes it suitable for portable electronics, while the large inductance range and current handling meet the demanding requirements of desktop computer applications. The MPI series is available on tape and reel with typical pricing around $0.24 each. Lead times are 8 to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.

These series expand Stackpole's non-shielded inductor offering, which previously focused on high-power and high-saturation inductors. Other non-shielded series, the PDH, PD, and PCD Series, are available in many case sizes from 0302 to 5022, inductance values from 0.18 to 1000µH, and have saturation currents above 19A.
