Sipex Unveils New SP6205 and SP6203 LDOs

September 17, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA) introduced the new SP6205 and SP6203, two low-noise 500mA and 300mA low dropout linear regulators (LDOs) that offer low output noise, low dropout, and ultra-low supply current. The LDOs are suitable for portable applications such as cellular phones, personal digital assistants and digital cameras.

The SP6205 provides up to 500mA with only 300mV dropout, while the SP6203 provides 300mA with only 180mV of dropout. Supply current is 45µA, which reduces to 10nA in shutdown, extending battery life in portable applications. Both devices only generate 12µVRMS of output noise with tiny 10nF bypass capacitors, which is important in noise-sensitive applications.

Packaged in the tiny SOT-23, the devices operate from a 2.7V to 6V input supply and have capacitors as low as 10nF, further reducing board space. The devices are available in fixed output voltages of 2.5V, 2.7V, 2.8V, 2.85V, 3.0V and 3.3V, as well as adjustable voltages, which allows customers to choose a specific voltage option. Other features include current-limit and thermal shutdown protection.

The SP6203 and SP6205 are available from stock in the SOT-23 package. Pricing starts from $0.75 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
