Sipex Intros SP7651 Addition to PowerBlox Family

September 21, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA), a provider of high-performance, analog integrated circuits, announced its new SP7651, a new member of the Sipex PowerBlox™ family of high-current, high-voltage, ultra-miniature, dc-dc buck regulators that offer a high frequency of 900kHz. This high-frequency operation, combined with a wide input-voltage range of 2.5 V to 20 V, makes the SP7651 suitable for use in cable modems, set-top boxes, plasma televisions, LCD monitors and routers.

The 3 A step-down regulator is capable of handling up to 20 V input and delivering output voltages as low as 0.8 V. By integrating low resistance switches, the SP7651 delivers high efficiencies, up to 92%, over a wide output-voltage range of 0.8 V to 20 V. Other device features include programmable soft start, over-temperature protection, dual under-voltage lock-out thresholds and short-circuit protection.

The SP7651 is available now in a 7 mm x 4 mm DFN package with three independent heatsinks. The part is rated over the industrial temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. Samples are also available. Pricing for the SP7651 begins at $2.40 in 10,000-piece quantities.
