siGEN Launches New Domestic Micro Wind Turbine

May 22, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

siGEN Ltd. will be showcasing the latest micro wind turbine to be launched in the UK with what they believe will be the best performing micro wind turbine available within its range. The turbine is designed and manufactured by Zephyr in Japan. At 17.5kg it is the lightest turbine product of less than 40% of similar products. At 12m/s power output, it is 1kW rising to 3kW at wind speeds of 15ms and will continue producing power in stall mode up to wind speeds of 50m/s.

siGEN have been testing the turbine on a house in the Langstracht Aberdeen, the city's only installed micro wind turbine, to much acclaim by local neighbours who like the elegant product styling and low noise impact. Many expressed surprise at the unobtrusiveness of the system.

The product will not compete directly with other products on the market and will fit a high performance niche of the market. The inverter, in which siGEN has been involved in the design, offers on grid and off grid functionality not available with other systems. The system can be configured to continue to operate should the grid fail (all G83 compliant systems shut own in grid fail). It can also provide battery back up support for extended power back up in the event of grid loss.

The systems will achieve CE certification by June and Clear skies approval is in process. Off grid systems are available immediately and grid configuration by July 2006. siGEN has already received their first orders for the turbines during April and May.
