Shindengen Intros MD5011T Converter Power IC

Shindengen America Inc. (Westlake Village, CA) introduced its new MD5011T, a 1.4 A step-down IC converter that offers a higher current rating than the previously released MD5001T. The MD5011T is a low-cost device containing a control IC and main switch MOSFET on a single chip SOP-8 package. Despite its small package the MD5011t has over 90% efficiency.

The input-voltage range is 4.5 V to 14 V and the output voltage is 0.8 V to 12 V with a maximum output current of 1.4 A. The MD5011T features remote on/off, over-current protection and built-in thermal protection. The MD5011T is recommended for designers who have employed regulators, but find thermal issues to be a serious problem and have insufficient space to fit a cooling fan. The MD5011T is particularly useful in an application that previously employed a regulator for 5 V input and 1.8 V output at a load of 1 A, but needs much higher energy efficiency.
