Schaefer Introduces New C5800-e Converters

January 30, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Schaefer Inc. (Ashland, MA) has introduced the programmable C5800-e Series of 12kW, 6U/9U high, 19" rack, compatible dc/dc and ac/dc converters. All units in the C5800-e Series have remote sensing, over-voltage protection and current-limit protection on the output. Zero switching allows for efficiency as high as 93 percent depending on input and output levels. Operating temperatures available include -20 degrees to +75 degrees C and extended range -40 degrees to +75 degrees C.

The C5800-e Series is available with dc input voltages from 40Vdc to 900Vdc, as well as ac input-voltage ranges of 93Vac to 264Vac. Three-phase ac input-voltages from 320Vac to 530Vac and power-factor corrected front ends are available. Outputs are available up to 400Vdc, are adjustable, and are fully regulated to 0.2 percent or better (load) and 0.1 percent (line).

The C5800-e is packaged in a 6U/9U x 19" x 360mm/460mm chassis and incorporates a terminal-style wiring interface. According to Schaefer, options available to allow highly reliable operation under virtually any environmental conditions include increased mechanical strength, tropical protection, inrush limiting, forced-air cooling, decoupling diodes for parallel operation, inhibit, power fail/dc-ok, system reset, active current sharing and wall mounting. Mechanical and electrical modifications to standard modules are available upon request. In addition, Schaefer can also design and manufacture custom solutions.

OEM quantity discounts are available. Pricing starts at $4,275 each at 100 pieces. Delivery is five to eight weeks ARO.
