SAE Power Debuts New PS83 DC/DC Converters

March 26, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

SAE Power Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), a supplier of EMI power line filters and magnetic components, has entered the power-supply market with its new line of PS83 dc/dc converters that deliver up to 190A at 1.8Vdc. These 500W converters are housed in a 5.4" x 3.2" x 1.2" package, and achieve efficiencies of at least 80 percent with an output voltage of 1.8Vdc. Built-in O-ring diodes enable true redundant, parallel N+1 operation.

Based on resonant zero-voltage switching, these 48Vdc input converters employ synchronous rectification. The first three models introduced all include a 30mA, 5Vdc auxiliary output for standby power needs. The standard ratings of the primary output are 190A at 1.8Vdc, 150A at 2.5Vdc and 140A at 3.3Vdc. Output voltages as low as 0.8Vdc will be introduced later this year.

Targeted at supercomputers, high-end computers and peripherals, and telecommunications systems, these dc/dc converters can be operated with forced-air or cold-plate cooling. Standard features include remote enable, remote sense, current share, temperature monitoring and margining. SAE is expected to announce a line of ac/dc power supplies later this year.
