Rohm Electronics Intros New 0402/0603-Size Resistors

February 14, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Rohm Electronics USA LLC (San Diego, CA) announced a line of 0.5-percent-tolerance thick-film resistors in 0402 and 0603 case sizes. The resistors have been tested to JIS C 5201-1 4.5 standards to ensure accuracy and to guarantee values for variation of resistance to several factors that include temperature, overload, resistance to solvent, and bend strength and solderability.

The 0402 resistor is about 60 percent smaller and 75 percent lighter than the 0603 package resistor, which makes it suitable for portable electronic equipment like cell phones, PDAs and portable entertainment systems. The external dimensions of the 0402 package are 1mm x 0.5mm x 0.35mm; the external dimensions of the 0603 package are 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.45mm. The 0603 resistors have a resin protection coating to absorb impact, preventing damage in automated assembly.

The company said the ruthenium-oxide dielectric of the new resistor line provides superior resistance to the elements, contributing to its high reliability. The resistors provide a voltage rating of 50V and a power rating of 0.063W at 70 degrees C. The operating temperature range is -55 to +125 degrees C.

The thick-film resistors are available on recyclable tape-and-reel or in bulk cases. Samples are available. Prices start at $10.92 per thousand, depending on the package. Lead time is 8 to 12 weeks.
