ROAL Launches New RA Range Of High Power AC-DC Modules & 19 Rack Systems

New Products Feb 18, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

ROAL Electronics has released its compact RA Range of high efficiency 1U ac-dc modules and ac-dc 19 rack systems offering output power from 1.2 to 50kW incorporating digital control and I²C interface features. The RA Range can be purchased in shelf, rack, and custom cabinet configurations.

Typical applications for products from the RA Range include servers, information technology equipment, networking, telecommunications, media & entertainment devices and a wide spectrum of industrial applications using distributed power architecture.

With power densities exceeding 27W/in3, the RA Range is said to enable increased functionality in a confined space. The basic module is a 1 x 2U hot-pluggable single output ac-dc power supply offering 12V at 96A. A second module outputs 48V at 30A. Both modules can be used as stand-alone devices, or can be plugged into a standard 1U 19 rack.

When configured in a rack, up to 5 modules can be paralleled to operate in a true current share mode to offer 7.5kW from a standard 1U 19 rack. Offering a hot-plug feature, the modules can also be configured to provide N+1 redundancy for mission critical applications. An additional feature is the ability to parallel up to 7 racks (19 7U) to output 12V at 3360A (40kW) or 48V at 1050A (50kW) . Each module in these parallel/redundant configurations is independently controlled and monitored via an I²C interface and onboard digital logic.
