Pulse Presents New PA0513 Power Inductors

New Products Jan 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse Engineering Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced a new series in its family of multi-phase, high-efficiency, shielded, shaped core, power inductors. The inductors are suitable for use in voltage regulator module applications in computer desktops, portables, workstations and servers. The PA0513 Series has an operating current rating of 45A, a peak current rating of 70A, an inductance range of 210nH to 440nH, a frequency range of up to 1MHz, and a typical direct-current resistance (DCR) of 0.39 milliohms. The PA0513 comes in an industry-standard 5050 footprint.

The Pulse PA0513 features overall dc-dc converter efficiency between 1% and 3%, depending on load condition and number of phases. The high inductor efficiency is the result of the low DCR, tight inductance and DCR tolerance (±8% versus ±20% typical), low core loss, and reduction of alternating current losses.

The PA0513 power inductor has only half the DCR of other inductors, and can handle 44% more current in the same small (13.5mm x 13.5mm x 8.0mm) industry-standard footprint. The advanced ferrite core material eliminates the risk of thermal aging. Operating temperatures range from -40°C to +130°C.

The PA0513 Series is available in tape-and-reel packaging with prices starting at $0.28 for volumes above 100,000 pieces. Volume discounts are available. Lead-time is six to eight weeks.
