May 09, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Premier Magnetics (Lake Forest, CA) has expanded its line of dc/dc power modues with the introduction of a series of devices targeted at the telecommunications industry. The modules, with nominal 48Vdc input (36V to 72V) are offered with a full range of outputs including 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, ±5V, ±12V and ±15V. They come in 7.5W, 15W and 30W packages.

Premier Magnetics claims that the modules have a typical efficiency of 80 percent. They provide regulated outputs, with ±1-percent load regulation, and input/output isolation ranging from 500 to 3,000Vdc. The units feature self-resetting output short-circuit protection and remote on/off. They operate at a switching frequency of 300kHz and meet EN55022 Class A Conductive EMI standards.

The converters are also available with other input voltages, including 5V, 12V and 24V. They are currently available with delivery from stock to eight weeks. Pricing ranges from $12 to $15 for modules in OEM quantities.
