May 01, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

PowerDsine Ltd. (Farmingdale, NY) introduced a second-generation of power-over-LAN hubs offering remote SNMP management capabilities in a smaller form factor. The new PowerDsine 6024, 6012 and 6006 (24-, 12- and 6-port configurations, respectively) power-over-LAN hubs are claimed to be the first and only IEEE 802.3af standard-compliant midspan devices in the market.

The new midspan family of devices enable easy online supervision, configuration, monitoring and control of any and all power-over-LAN products. The devices also monitor the unit's input voltage and current per port to help network managers optimize uninterruptible power source battery resources. The new power-over-LAN hubs are compactly designed with a 1U height, allowing easy rack mounting and consuming minimal space in the wiring closet.

The full 6000 Series of power-over-LAN hubs are currently available.
