Power-One Intros HBCS25ZH DC/DC Front-End

New Products Dec 17, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) announced its new HBCS25ZH dc/dc front-end as an addition to the maXyz™ family of advanced intermediate bus architecture (IBA) power solutions. Operating from a wide-input range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc, the 300W half-brick provides sequencing of up to four point-of-load converters, eliminating the need for an external controller and simplifying the design of board-level IBA power systems.

Each of the four sequencing signals can be user-programmed for a delay of 1ms to 50ms after the intermediate bus has reached 88% of nominal voltage. Power-down sequencing is activated when the intermediate bus reaches 80% of nominal voltage. The HBCS25ZH provides a 12Vdc intermediate bus voltage that is tightly regulated over the entire input voltage and output load ranges. High efficiencies, up to 94%, reduce power dissipation and simplify system-level thermal management.

Other features include 1,500Vdc input-to-output isolation, basic insulation, high capacitive-load capability, wide output-voltage trim, and low conducted and radiated EMI. Protection features include backdrive, output over-voltage, output over-current, and over-temperature. The converters also offer remote-sense capability, and positive or negative logic, primary-referenced, remote on/off.

Typical OEM production pricing is $63 each for OEM quantities. Evaluation units are available in three to four weeks.
