Power-One Introduces YEV POL DC-DC Converters Delivering Up To 94% Efficiency

New Products May 20, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One, Inc. introduced the YEV series of Point-of-Load (POL) dc-dc converters. These 3, 6, 10, and 20A vertically-mounted products are said to utilize advanced topologies to deliver up to 94% efficient power conversion in communications and server applications.

YEV-Series POLs reduce the number of model numbers needed in inventory by combining wide input ranges, 4.5 to 13.8V, with user-defined 0.6 to 5.1V outputs. Additional features include: the capability to start up into pre-biased loads, no minimum-load operation, UL94 V-0 flammability rating, 0 to 70°C ambient-temperature operating ranges, and low-noise fixed-frequency topologies. The 3, 6, and 10A products utilize an industry-standard 0.41 x 0.40" (10.41 x 10.16mm) SIP footprint and a 0.65" (16.51mm) height.

The 20A, YEV09T20 utilizes an industry-standard 1.45" x 0.34" (36.83 x 8.6mm) SIP footprint, and a 0.61" (15.5mm) height.

Protections include overcurrent and output overvoltage with automatic restart. Interface capabilities include Power Good signal (YEV09T20) and Enable inputs. Safety agency approvals include: UL/CSA 60950-1, EN 60950-1, and IEC EN 60950-1.

Unit pricing for 1,000 piece quantities of 3, 6, 10, and 20A models is $4.75, $5.30, $5.75, and $8.00, respectively. Evaluation models are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in 10 to 12 weeks.
