Power-One Introduces W Series of Converters

June 18, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new W Series of DIN-rail mount ac/dc and dc/dc converters. This new generation of products is available at 120W and 250W with single or dual 24V and 48V outputs. Active power-factor correction is provided to meet European line harmonics standard EN61000-3-2. Typical applications include process control and energy distribution.

Features of the new W Series include efficiencies up to 89 percent, 85Vac to 264Vac input, peak power rating of 150 percent, and immunity against voltage dips and brownouts. The converters operate in ambient temperatures from -40 to 60 degrees C and do not require forced-air cooling. The overall size is 4.1in x 5.4in x 4.5in. Safety approvals include UL508, UL1950, EN60950 and CSA 950.

Additional standard features for the series include less than 5A of input-inrush current, no minimum load required, operation from 110V or 220V battery systems, a controlled current limit, and short-circuit protection. Optional features include remote programming and screw terminals. Battery-charger models are also available with remote temperature control and monitoring.

Typical W Series prices start at $0.85 per watt in quantities of 100 for the 250W models.
