Positronic Introduces Contact System for High Density Rectangular Connectors

New Products Mar 09, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

Positronic introduced a high density rectangular line that offers industrial performance and conformance to MIL-C-28748 and MIL-DTL-28748, with size 22 contacts in superior density contact configurations from 4 to 104 contacts.

The high density rectangular line, composed of SGM, SGMC, and SMPL series, now features PosiBand® contact technology developed exclusively by Positronic. This design is more robust than legacy split tine female contacts, which can be pried open resulting in reduced normal force and degradation of electrical performance. The PosiBand is a closed entry female contact system which, in these series, provides a low contact resistance of 0.004 ohms, while offering higher current ratings (EG: 12A, 2 contacts energized; and 5A, 104 contacts energized). Crimp termination contacts require no annealing of the crimp barrels, eliminating the concern of unintentionally heat-treating the mating end, which can cause electrical failure. This superior contact design has received SAE AS39029 qualification.

Termination options include removable crimp and solder cup, as well as straight, right angle and press-fit PCB terminations. Rectangular connectors can also be supplied with thermocouple contacts. A variety of available hardware types include: jackscrews, quick disconnect locking device, polarizing guides, cable adapters, and panel mounting options. These options allow for both keying and polarizing connector systems.
