March 13, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Polytron Devices Inc. (Paterson, NJ) recently released for mass production the MW30 Series, a complete line of 30W dc/dc converters in a six-sided shield 2" x 1.63" x 0.4" package. Polytron claims that the series has 90 percent efficiency and on/off capability. The encapsulated converters operate without derating or heat-sinking over a temperature range from -25 to 71 degrees C. They are available with a 2:1 input voltage of either 18:36Vdc or 36:72Vdc, or with single-output voltages of 2.5V, 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 15V.

The MW30 Series features over-current protection, short-circuit protection and 1,600Vdc isolation. They are suitable for telecom and networking applications. All units are 100 percent burned-in under full load, hi-pot tested and final-electrical tested prior to shipment.

Polytron's MW30 Series converters are priced at $49 each in quantities of 1,000.
