PoLs target FPGA Power Management

New Products Feb 23, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Bellnix Co. Ltd. has released the BSV series of non-isolated point-of-load (PoL) dc-dc converters. These PoLs are designed to power high-end FPGAs and ASICs. They deliver high-speed dynamic voltage regulation meeting the latest LSI requirements. The BSV series includes three families, the BSV-nano Series which delivers up to 4A of output current (11.0 x 11.0 x 3.2 mm), the BSV-M Series which delivers up to 9.5A (20.32 x 15.0 x 4.0 mm), and the BSV-H / BSV-HE Series which delivers up to 16A (27.0 x 16.5 x 4.2 mm).

The BSV series has the following features: Small size, High power density; High speed load response; High efficiency, 94%; Low ripple noise, 10mVp-p; Over current protection; Under voltage lock out; ON/OFF control; Power-Good signal; Sequence configurable by ON/OFF control and Power-Good signal; SMD package; Operation temperature -40 to +85 degrees C (temperature derating required).

“Bellnix power supplies are among the quietest switching power supplies we have tested with the Virtex-7 H580T All Programmable FPGA. Customers who want to extract the most out of their transceiver link budget will find they can still achieve their design parameters with a low-noise switching power supply,” Xilinx’s Analog Marketing Manager Steve Logan said.

The BSV series is a recommended convertor for Xilinx FPGAs. Bellnix offers the BPE-37 power module for evaluation that includes a BSV PoL which is optimized to support Xilinx FPGA boards. It claims the best jitter performance on SERDES output signals. Complete manufacturing data (GERBER DATA, BOM list, Manual, Schematic) are available from Bellnix.
