Planar Magnetics for Off-line Designs

Champs Technologies introduces a standard planar transformer series termed "80R2-AC". They have been specifically developed, tested and adapted for use in Linear Technology's Reference Design Series DC1929A. The series is noted for its high efficiency and power throughput employing a forward converter active clamp topology on the input side typically with Linear IC chip LT3752-1 and secondary side SR control on the secondary side with Linear IC chip LT8311.

The combination of the use of these ICs along with the 80R2 AC Series devices enables a Forward Active Clamp to achieve levels of performance in this application space not achievable or comparable with wound magnetics. The predominant application space is generally understood as off-line power which covers an input voltage range of 150- to 420-Vin whether from preceding PFC stage or HVDC Bus. Power levels range typically from 100- to 350-W.

The designs are standard surface mount or thru-hole but can be adapted for pad-to-pad, embedded or half-embedded mechanical configurations. Champs Technologies also will supply it in dc-dc module form, performing all SM assembly, manufacture and testing.
