Philips Semiconductors Announces the CapFREE Family of LDOs

June 20, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Philips Semiconductors (Sunnyvale, CA) announced the CapFREE family of capacitor-free LDOs. The first memeber in the family, the 150mA SA57000-xx offers fixed-output voltages between 2.5V and 3.6V. It requires no capacitor because its outputs are stable regardless of the ESR.

“Eliminating capacitors with our CapFree family is a breakthrough that resonates with system designers everywhere,” said Zohar Raz, strategic marketing manager of Philips’ standard analog business line. “These efforts help our customers shrink portable electronics, cellular phones, notebook computers and other highly integrated designs more effectively than ever before. The SA57000-xx also paves the way for other CapFREE family members in the low- and ultra low-output-voltage LDOs.”

Philips’ CapFREE SA57000-xx comes in a five-lead SOT-23 package priced at $0.39 per unit in quantities of less than 1,000.
