Philips Intros ESD Series Protection Diodes

New Products Dec 14, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Royal Philips Electronics (the Netherlands) announced its new ESD Series of electro-static discharge (ESD) protection diodes designed to protect consumer and communications applications from ESD and other voltage-induced transient pulses. With low diode capacitance, low leakage current and reverse stand voltages of 3.3V and 5V, the new ESD protection diodes provide protection of electrical equipment both at the system and component level.

The devices are also suitable for applications such as battery-driven devices where power consumption is a key concern. The ESD Series diodes offer a low device capacitance down to 16pF, a low leakage current down to 50nA, a footprint is 1mm x 0.6mm x 0.5mm, and printed circuit board savings of 90%. The new series can withstand ESD pulses up to 20kV, and fulfills industry standard IEC 61000-4-2 (Level 4).

The new ESD Series of low-capacitance diodes are available now in a range of configurations and packages. Depending on the number of protected lines per device, pricing varies between $0.04 and $0.20 for quantities of 10,000 or less.
