Perllo Technologies Intros ECxxC Series Power Inductors
Perllo Technologies LLC (St. Charles, IL) and ECM Electronics Ltd. (UK) announced its new ECxxC Series of lead-free power inductors for the North American automotive market. With current handling ranges of up to 10 A, and inductance ranges of 1.2 µH to 1.5 mH, the series was developed to assist in the design of more power-efficient circuits in applications where reliability is a requirement. Potential applications in the automotive market include power supplies, anti-lock braking systems, LCD displays and dc-dc converters.
The low-voltage, high-current inductor is ideal for switching power supplies and portable electronics due to the manner in which the magnetic component collects, filters, and smoothes AC ripple current in DC circuits. The low-profile design minimizes board real estate requirements, maximizes power density while providing excellent co-planarity, and reduces failure modes often found with plating and solder-terminated wires and leads.
The core material is not susceptible to thermal aging and provides a mean time to failure of greater than one million hours of operation. Also, the inductor series is very low-profile in relation to its current-handling capability. It is ferrite-shielded, making it suited for such applications where, due to the broad frequency range of operation, high Q inductors are not desired.
Currently available in physical sizes as small as 6 mm x 6 mm x 2.8 mm, the ECxxC Series utilizes a 180 °C (Class H) insulation system, and is suitable for operating in environments with a -40 °C to +85 °C temperature range.
