July 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Payton America Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) has released a new series of SMT planar transformers for use in low-profile power modules.

The transformers in this line measure 1.04in x 1.18in x 0.40in and are available as single- or multiple-output devices with currents up to 80A. Inputs are available for 28V, 48V, 270V and 400V. Outputs are available from 1.2V to higher.

The typical leakage inductance for the series is 2uH for 270V input. Total losses are about 5W. The hot spot is under 122 degrees C with an 85-degrees C base-plate temperature at 250W of output power. The weight is under 30g.

The new high-current line of SMT power transformers is available for immediate delivery. Prices are in the range of $7 in quantities of 1,000. Volume discounts are available.
