Oriental Motor USA Corp. (Torrance, CA) announced its new, miniature size 11 (28mmsq) AlphaStep motor and driver, available in two stack lengths. The AS34AK model is 1.77in long and produces 7.8oz-in (0.55Nm) of holding torque at 24Vdc input. The longer AS36AK, with a stack length of 2.60in, provides 17oz-in of holding torque with 24Vdc input. Oriental Motor claims that there is no loss of synchronism in an AlphaStep motor and driver package.

The 24Vdc open frame driver measures 5.91in x 4.72in x 1.77in. It provides 1.0A per phase to the AS34AK motor, and 1.1A per phase to the longer AS36AK step motor. System protection functions include overload, over-voltage, over-speed, speed error, sensor error, system error and EEPROM data-error signals.
