ON Semi Intros NTLTD7900 Battery Management FET

October 27, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor Corp. (Phoenix, AZ) introduced the NTLTD7900, a dual n-channel, common drain, power MOSFET for lithium-ion battery management in portable electronics, including cellular phones, pagers and PDAs. The NTLTD7900 is a 9A, 20V device designed for use in protection circuits for one- and two-cell lithium-ion battery packs. Offered in a tiny 3.3mm x 3.3mm micro-8LL leadless package, it reduces utilized board space by 48 percent.

The NTLTD7900 is the first in a series of new gate-protected products ON Semiconductor will introduce in 2002 and 2003. The devices deliver a low RDS(on) of 26 milliohms at 4.5V, minimize power drain and extend battery life, feature a reduction in thermal resistance to 82 degrees C/W, and zener-protected gates provide electrostatic discharge protection exceeding industry requirements. The integration of gate diodes into the FET eliminates the need to add discrete back-to-back zeners to the circuit.

The NTLTD7900 is priced at $0.35 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
