New Heat Sinks Increase the Thermal Performance of DC-DC Bricks

New Products Mar 10, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Thermal Solutions, Inc. (ATS) has launched a new product line of maxiFLOW™ heat sinks, specifically designed for cooling standard eighth-, quarter-, half- and full-brick dc-dc converters for OEM’s, industrial and process controls, distributed power, medical, ATE, communications, defense, and aerospace applications.

ATS’ patented maxiFLOW™ technology is proven to be the most efficient BGA heat sink technology on the market. The same technology is now available for cooling eighth-, quarter-, half- and full-brick dc-dc converters. Unlike other converter heat sinks, the patented maxiFLOW™ heat sink design reduces pressure drop and provides greater surface area, increasing thermal performance by 30-200%.

Each heat sink is provided pre-assembled with a layer of Chomerics T766 phase-change thermal interface material, which enhances heat transfer from the brick to the heat sink. All heat sinks are gold anodized and come with three sets of screws, 5-, 6- and 8-mm in length for a range of attachment options.

Depending on the external system components of a power module, a dc-dc converter can range in efficiency, cost, and capability. Power output ratings are based on circuit design margins, heat transfer and heat flow. The new line of maxiFLOWâ„¢ heat sinks optimize dc-dc converter modules by increasing thermal performance and ensuring long term product reliability in electronic systems.
