MGE UPS Debuts New Galaxy PW UPS

August 01, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems (Costa Mesa, CA) introduced its scalable Galaxy PW uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which allows users to purchase only needed power and to scale-up as the infrastructure grows. The new family includes six scaleable models in power ratings from 100kVA to 225kVA. With a modular design, paralleling power modules for capacity or redundancy is quickly accomplished eliminating the need for extra paralleling equipment. To match load profiles, the Galaxy has a +0.9 output power factor. In addition, the 225kVA model requires only 11ft² of space. For extended battery run-time, four additional battery cabinets can be added to achieve over an hour of backup time.

MGE has incorporated advanced battery management into the new Galaxy PW. Through automated load testing of the batteries, the Galaxy PW can determine precise battery-performance parameters and alert operators to any irregularities before they have a chance to affect the UPS performance. In addition, predictive failure analysis of the batteries is automatically performed allowing users to know exactly when they should replace their batteries. The Galaxy PW interfaces with universal communication protocols and incorporates four communication slots to support SNMP, J-Bus/ModBus, TCP/IP and (RS232-RS485) protocols for easy interfacing with most devices.

The Galaxy PW UPS is UL-1778 and cUL approved, and conforms to FCC Class A parts, 15 sub-parts. The new Galaxy also meets ISO 9001 design and manufacturing standards. Available now, the Galaxy PW family pricing starts at $35,000 and includes a one-year warranty.
