Mean Well Releases New Series of On-Board Type DC-DC Converters

August 07, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Mean Well released the new NSD05 series of 5W on-board type dc-dc converter. Featuring 4:1 wide dc input range and 1500Vdc input/output isolation, the NSD05 series have two kinds of dc input level – 12V (9.2~36Vdc), 48V (18~72Vdc), and four kinds of dc output level – 3.3, 5, 12, and 15V for end users to select from. Other standard functions include remote ON/OFF control, short circuit, over load, and over voltage protections.

The design of the NSD05 refers to global certificates per IEC60950-1 and CE, and the CB test report issued by TUV is also available for any further certificating application. The NSD05 can be operated under free air convection between the -25~70°C ambient temperature without adding any heat sink, and hence, according to the company, can keep the cost lower than other 5W encapsulated type models in the market. The gadgets are suitable for applications using distributed power architecture that transfer the high dc bus voltage to lower dc working voltage at the location of the load.
