Maxim Presents MAX3070E-MAX3079E Transceivers

March 10, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) unveiled its new MAX3070E to MAX3079E 3.3V, RS-485 transceivers, which feature hot-swap and true fail-safe circuitry to ensure reliable data transfer. The transceivers operate from a single 3.3V supply and feature a 1µA shutdown mode (except for the MAX3071E/MAX3074E/MAX3077E). The devices withstand ESD strikes up to ±15kV, providing added protection to the RS-485 port.

Hot-swap circuitry eliminates data glitches during hot insertion by holding the RS-485/RS-422 lines in a high-impedance state for a minimum of 10µs during startup, and until the first transition occurs on the driver enable. True fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open, shorted or connected to a terminated transmission line with all drivers disabled. The feature eliminates the need to externally bias the bus using external components.

The MAX3070E to MAX3079E are available in the extended and automotive temperature ranges in industry-standard, 8-pin and 14-pin SO and DIP pinouts. Prices start at $1.75 for quantities of 1,000 and more.
