New Products Mar 12, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) introduced the MAX1836/MAX1837, a new series of step-down dc/dc converters with an internal 24V P-channel MOSFET switch. They come in 6-pin SOT23 packages and are suitable for applications including I/O, audio and video supplies in notebook and handheld systems powered by up to four lithium-ion batteries and ac/dc adaptors.

The MAX1836 delivers up to 250mA, and the MAX1837 delivers up to 125mA. Efficiency is 90 percent, and quiescent supply current is 12µA (3µA in logic-controlled shutdown). The converters also feature current-limiting and over-temperature protection.

The MAX1836 and MAX1837 are screened for the extended-industrial temperature range, from -40 to 85 degrees C. Prices start at $2.07.
